The Benefits and Dangers of Anti Aging Supplements

Taking supplements to fight the process of aging is gaining in popularity. These anti aging supplements range from everyday multivitamins to products that claim to increase levels of certain hormones in the body to make people more youthful. There are certain benefits and risks involved in taking these supplements.

Multivitamins and Vitamin Supplements

Multivitamins have been used for the most part safely, for years. The benefit of taking vitamin supplements is still being debated; however the general consensus seems to be that, when taken properly, they at least are not generally harmful. In certain situations however, they can be harmful. The shelves of vitamins offered in many different types of stores today are full of many different types of supplements including multivitamins and vitamins sold on their own (i.e. vitamin E or vitamin A supplements), or a few different supplements similar in nature being sold in one pill (i.e. vitamin B complex).

The danger of these supplements occurs when a person is either taking pills that overlap minerals that can build up in the body, or when he or she is taking too many of one supplement. To prevent injury from this type of situation, consumers should check with their doctors before starting any medications, even over the counter anti aging supplements, or supplements of any kind.

Herbal Remedies

Herbal remedies are also growing in popularity. This type of anti aging supplement may claim to accomplish many different things depending on the type of ingredients. Some of the ailments this type of supplement offers to help cure include memory problems and lack of energy. Some over the counter herbal medications also claim to help the buyer sleep, reduce joint pain, and even improve the appearance of aging skin.

Some of these medications are more effective than others, and many have yet to be proven. The real danger with these anti aging supplements however, is not in the consumer dollars possibly wasted, but in the negative effects they can have on the persons' health. One herbal remedy recently removed from the market by the FDA is ephedra, which was shown to have negative side effects that could even result in death.

Herbal remedies can also be dangerous when they interact with other medications. It is possible for some of these anti aging supplements to interact badly with each other as well as with certain prescription medications. It is important to communicate well with your doctor, to help ensure you do not experience these bad reactions.

There are some very important things you can do to take care of your skin and make sure that you are protecting it from signs of aging. Keep your skin hydrated and supple with a great moisturizer. Organic Shea Butter is a moisturizer, but studies show that it can do much more. It actually has anti-aging properties which fight lines and wrinkles, dull skin and dryness. This will help immensely in the fight against aging. Shea Butter contains Vitamins A and E, and is a great source of specific healthy fats and acids which are great for your skin. In fact, some studies show that you can tell a difference in the way your skin looks in just 4 to 6 weeks. Smoother, softer and supple skin can all be achieved with Shea Butter, and it also protects your skin from the sun.
