Anti-aging skin care

Anti-aging skin care is more than peels, scrubs, lotions and serums. Here's a basic overview of anti-aging skin care and some easy things you can do to improve your skin's health and appearance.
Your skin ages due to a variety of factors, including heredity and lifestyle. You can't do much about heredity, but you can take steps to slow down its effects on your skin. You may notice some fine lines on your forehead or under your eyes. There may be deep lines that run from the sides of your nose to the corners of your mouth. Skin along the jawbone and under the chin may be loose and sagging. You may have "crow's feet" at the corners of your eyes. Take a moment to look critically into the mirror. Then follow some of the suggestions below.

When choosing anti-aging skin care products, look for products containing proven performers like vitamins A, C, E and alpha hydroxy acid. Vitamin A, also known as Retinol, strengthens the collagen fibers in the skin.
Collagen accounts for up to 75% of the weight of the interior layer of skin, called the dermis. Collagen also is responsible for the resilience and elasticity of the skin. Vitamin C, also known as L-abscorbic acid, is an anti-oxidant that protects cells from the destructive power of oxygen, which can act corrosive and weaken skin cells. Vitamin E helps retain moisture and smoothness. Alpha hydroxy acid gently breaks down the bonds of dead skin cells, allowing them to sluff off and reveal the healthy, younger skin below.

All the cosmetics in the world won't do an optimal job unless you make some important lifestyle changes to support your anti-aging skin care regimen. Drink plenty of water, eat a healthy diet, exercise regularly, use a sunscreen, don't smoke, get plenty of sleep and use alcohol use alcohol in moderation. This two-pronged approach combining lifestyle changes and effective cosmetics is the best and most efficient way improve your skin's resiliency and smoothness, and to fortify it in the battle against fine lines and wrinkles.

I have been reading about niaciamide as the next anti-aging active. will the topical niaciamide " flush " the skin like the oral vitamin?

Oral niacinamide does not cause flush. It is niacin (a.k.a. nicotinic acid), a different form of vitamin B3, that causes flush.

It is not necessary to run out to your favorite department store and buy the most expensive skin care treatment on the market. Many of the skin care products that are sold in drugstores and online are just as effective (just a lot less expensive!).
